Helena - The Governor's Office of Community Service announced that $140,000 dollars in Youth Serve Montana Scholarship funds are available to Montana High School Seniors who've performed 100 hours of volunteer service for their community.

"This is a great opportunity to recognize students for their enthusiasm in volunteering," Jan Lombardi, Director of the Governor's Office of Community Service said. "The Youth Serve Montana Scholarships is a great way to honor students who invest their time and talents in Montana, and help them go to college."

Each student who applies and qualifies can receive $1,000 dollars toward continued education at one of Montana's public, tribal, private, community or technical colleges.

Applications and proof of volunteer service and enrollment to a Montana post-secondary institution must be submitted by a High School Principal, Career Counselor or a County Superintendent to the Governor's Office of Community Service by April 15, 2010.

The application form and guidelines can be found at the website: Serve.MT.gov

The $140,000 dollars in College Scholarship funds have been made available through a partnership with Montana Campus Compact (mtcompact.org), a network of nineteen Montana campuses committed to community service, and the Student Assistance Foundation (safmt.org), a nonprofit student loan servicing organization. The Scholarships will be administered by the Governor's Office of Community Service (Serve.MT.gov).
